Yes, Synology DS218 provides a wider body it is 6.5×8.88×3.94 for the dimension and 1.92 for the weight. It is designed simply in black matte and some indicator lights on the front part.

Synology DS218play is categorized as 2-bay NAS for home users for multimedia solutions. It has 4K video transcoding on the fly equipped with 10-bit H.265 codec support. For the speed, it can read and write throughput, respectively, for up to 112 MB/s and 112 MB/s.

Meanwhile, for the encrypted sequential reading throughput and sequential writing throughput, it is available for over 112 MB/s both. The NAS is powered by a 64-bit 1.4 GHz quad-core processor with RAM for 1GB DDR4.

It can be concluded that Synology DS118 is slightly better for performance. For the design, it seems that Synology DS218play looks more straightforward and more practical.
