Epson EX3280 vs Epson Home Cinema 880 Review: Pros and Cons
The advanced technology of modern projector has brought a new way of enjoying a movie. If you are looking for a projector that can deliver a presentation and home theater system at the same time, Epson has at least two products that you will love—EX3280 and Home Cinema 880.
Let’s review the pros and cons of Epson EX3280 vs Epson Home Cinema 880.
Epson EX3280 Review
With 3,600 lumens, this projector is one of the brightest in its class. From movies to presentations, thanks to the XGA resolution, it can display the colors vividly, even in big and well-lit rooms.
EX3280 projector is also equipped with True 3-Chip 3LCS technology responsible for displaying perfect RGB color. Say goodbye to “rainbowing” or any color distractions often seen in projectors without the True 3-Chip technology.
It only comes with one HDMI port, which can be used to connect with laptops, computers, and any streaming devices to watch movies. We deserve more ports, but it is more than enough for this class. With a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, EX 3280 offers dynamic images and videos with richer details than similar projectors.
Epson launched a series of business-line projectors, and EX3280 is entry-level. With a 4:3 aspect ratio, there might be some quality issues when you want to display a 16:9 video or image.
It comes with a remote for a convenient digital zoom-in and zoom-out. However, it doesn’t come with optical zoom. It is not a secret that digital zoom is not the best option since the action can lower the brightness.
Even though EX3280 can deliver crisp images with clear details perfect for movie time, the built-in speaker is pretty much the same as the other projectors. Unreliable. The sound might not be loud enough for a noisy room. Since it doesn’t come with audio out, you need to prepare the external sound system for better sound quality.

- Vibrant color makes every display pops out.
- Excellent and modern 3-chip LCD design
- Compact size and very lightweight.
- Easy setup
- No optical zoom, only digital zoom

Epson Home Cinema 880 Review
Like what the name suggests, Epson designs this projector to specifically target movie lovers who want a versatile entertainment system. With 3,300 lumens, it is more than enough to display a movie with vibrant and vivid color in a well-lit room.
It supports 1080p images, making Home Cinema 880 the best in its class. It comes with 3LCD technology displays that minimize rainbowing and deliver accurate colors. This is a perfect projector for watching action movies and playing fast-paced games.
This projector comes with one HDMI port that gets all the jobs done because it can connect to any entertainment system. It is easy to set up because it comes equipped with a built-in speaker. But for a more convenient watching experience, it is more recommended to use an external audio system.
Epson Home Cinema 880 fails to deliver crisp and detailed images despite the high contrast ratio. The contrast doesn’t look much better than the lower-end models with less contrast ratio. But the high-quality 3LCD technology makes up for it.
It is a shame that a projector branded as a home theater system doesn’t come with a good zoom. You can’t zoom the projector, so it might be difficult to position it in a room. Even though digital zoom doesn’t really help, it is best to come with this feature instead of no zoom at all.
